3 essential steps to losing weight

Written by Mike L. Gallagher | Date: November 30, 2009 9:05 pm | Permalink | Category: Weight loss

Three steps weight loss

Step 1. Start a diet plan and follow it strictly for 1 week.

If you want to lose weight, you need to eat less calories per day than you have been eating. Staying on a healthy diet plan is the true way of losing weight.

With a healthy low fat diet plan, it can helps you lose up to 2 lbs or more in a week, and to go on losing weight in a healthy way until you reach your goal.

Depending on your gender and how much weight you want to lose, you can start a plan with a caloric intake ranging from 1000 to 2000 calories a day.

After a week, you may continue your weight loss by repeating the plan, or switch to another one with a different caloric intake.

Remember, diet plans can only work if they motivate you sufficiently to decrease the amount of calories you consume. Starting a diet plan can be pretty easy but after a week or two of eating the same foods your enthusiasm can take a dive. Click to continue reading the rest of the article »

Sexy slim calvesSometimes we don’t think about our calves until we don a new pair of heels and wonder why our calves don’t look fabulous. How could they when we neglect them so much?

We use our calves throughout the day without even thinking about it, but when it comes time for the gym, it’s the last body part we want to work on.

Plus there’s the looming myth that if we work out our calves, they’ll get big and bulky. No! The exact opposite is true. To shape your calves, you have to strengthen and stretch them.

When your calves aren’t strong, they tend to look flabby and shapeless. Many women know that muscle weighs more than fat. Click to continue reading the rest of the article »

Waking up hungry?

Written by Mike L. Gallagher | Date: October 22, 2009 9:49 am | Permalink | Category: Lifestyle

Waking up hungry I’m hungry. It’s 6:16 AM and my stomach is grumbling. Do I really want my breakfast now? I usually eat around 7:00 AM. This sure feels like hunger to me, but is it real hunger, or something else?

And now it’s 10 minutes later and that grumbling is gone – funny.  Sometimes that occurs during the day and thinking it’s hunger I  want to eat but that may not be what it is after all.

Perhaps I’m thirsty or it could be something else entirely. It doesn’t hurt to wait a few minutes, just to see what happens.  Hunger is not going to hurt you. It’s a normal part of daily  living. Hunger can wait. Click to continue reading the rest of the article »

How NOT to become a sumo wrestler

We can all agree that nobody knows more about how to gain lots of weight than these guys. What they primarily employ is the  “meal patterning” technique.

The sumo wrestler diet is based on this:

1. Skip breakfast. By depriving their bodies of food after eight hours of sleep, their metabolic rates stay low. Click to continue reading the rest of the article »

Weight loss… is a ritual!

Written by Mike L. Gallagher | Date: September 30, 2009 4:48 pm | Permalink | Category: Lifestyle, Weight loss

Weight loss ritual Jake, my training partner  and I were wondering why some people have more success than other even when they’re using the same diets and exercises.

Clearly the problem isn’t the routines, and it most likely isn’t anything to do with each person’s body as many people succeed and many people fail.

So there must be something that all the successful people are doing that the unsuccessful people aren’t doing. We struggled with this question for a while until I heard Jake  say one word that made all the difference…  Click to continue reading the rest of the article »

Waiter weight lossHow many meals in your daily and weekly eating routine get served by someone else?

When you go to a restaurant you are clearly being served by someone else. When you got to dinner parties you most likely aren’t serving yourself.

Written by Mike L. Gallagher | Date: September 2, 2009 7:57 pm | Permalink | Category: Nutrition

Olive oil hydrogenated What do bread, crackers, cereal, macaroni & cheese, frozen pizza, donuts, and cookies have in common? Besides being at the top of the list of many kids’ favorite foods, they are all possible sources of trans fats.

Diet versus exercises – which is better?

Written by Mike L. Gallagher | Date: 7:45 pm | Permalink | Category: Lifestyle, Weight loss

diet versus exercise I just got back from the gym this morning and while I was there I saw a few things that I just had to tell someone about.

So I’m just doing my thing, lifting some weights and watching the sports highlights between my sets and I notice a few personal trainers in the gym with a couple very heavy clients.

These trainers were pushing these poor people so hard I thought they were both gonna pass out right there in front of us. I was actually starting to feel uncomfortable and one of the gentlemen that was being trained looked faint. Click to continue reading the rest of the article »

The ‘fat burning zone’ myth

Written by Mike L. Gallagher | Date: August 24, 2009 11:03 am | Permalink | Category: Exercise

Fat burning zone A trainer told me that to burn fat I need to exercise at a lower intensity. I also noticed that my treadmill has a “fat burning zone.” At this intensity I don’t feel like I’m getting a good workout. Do easier workouts really burn more fat?

ANSWER:

The information on those machines can be deceiving. The “fat burning zone” is a myth that is based on a fact, but taken out of context…  Click to continue reading the rest of the article »
